A Sixth Sense

I love all of Mike Lupica’s books because they are all about sports and I am a big sports fan. But Hero is nothing like he’s ever written. It’s full of action and the book actually starts with an intense action-packed scene. That only made me excited for what else was in store for me as I continued to read. But even more than all the action, is mystery. Each chapter ends as a cliff hanger up until the second to last one. As you read, the more information you get leads to even more mysteries. Each moment that I spent reading excited me and I couldn’t stop.

Almost every day we make promises to the people around us. We sometimes make them without thinking and sometimes we don’t keep them. Greg Mortensen on the other hand knows how to keep a promise. In Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen and David Oliver Relin adapted by Sarah Thomson, Greg is a man who has just lost his sister, Christa. In her memory he attempts to climb the second highest mountain in the world, K2. When he does not succeed, he comes upon a small village in Pakistan. He falls in love with their people and especially the kids. He then promises to build them a school.

I Rose With Esperanza

Esperanza Rising was a great book that kept my eyes glues to the pages.  It has a really good message, and should be an example for everyone to follow.  At some parts, it felt like it was going by really slow, and I got distracted, but when it did, it got back on track with something exiting or interesting.  I would recommend this book for girls who like different cultures and that like learning about Mexico.  If there was a sequel, I would definitely read it!

In the book If I Stay by Gayle Forman, the main character is Mia, a spirited, pretty young high school girl who loves to play the cello, loves to laugh along with her brother, loves sharing secrets with her best friend, and loves hanging out with her boyfriend. She is a life-lover. In this story she faces obstacles with no right answers; all the paths seem to ultimately be the wrong choice to make. And it’s up to her to choose which road to take.

A Miraculous Story

Review by Diana L.
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is a tale of one rabbit’s journey home. Even though this book is fairly short and more like a children’s book than anything else, it’s still evoked more emotions out of me than any other book has. I’ve actually read this book a few times before, but it never fails to make me feel sad as I follow Edward on his journey. This is a book that I’d recommended to people if they like characters who develop as the story goes on.
